British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu has playfully dismissed speculation regarding a romantic connection with Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz. The exchange occurred during a pre-Wimbledon press conference, where she also confirmed their participation in mixed doubles at the upcoming US Open.
Recent sightings of Raducanu supporting Alcaraz at the HSBC Championships at Queen's Club ignited rumors about a potential relationship. This led to a direct question during the press conference.
Raducanu responded to the dating rumors with a simple, "We're just good friends."
However, the exchange didn't end there. As the reporter attempted to conclude the topic, Raducanu quipped, "Way to wrap up," showcasing her playful personality.
The two tennis stars have recently practiced together, preparing for their mixed doubles debut at the US Open.
"It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian, just getting some volley practice ahead of New York. I'm really happy to be playing with him. We had a great time," Raducanu commented, highlighting the positive dynamic between the pair.
Raducanu also revealed that the mixed doubles partnership was Alcaraz's idea: "Yes, he asked me. He asked me earlier on in the year, and I was very surprised, honoured, and excited," she shared.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has faced challenges in maintaining consistent performance since her breakthrough victory. Her recent appearance at the Eastbourne Open concluded with a loss to Maya Joint before the quarter-finals.
Alcaraz, following his 2022 US Open victory, has continued his ascent in the tennis world, securing several major titles.
After his recent triumph at the HSBC Championships, Alcaraz is preparing for his Wimbledon 2025 campaign, where he will face Fabio Fognini of Italy in the first round.
The US Open will mark a new chapter for Raducanu and Alcaraz as they join forces in mixed doubles, combining their talent and aiming for success on the court.
