The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer. He is set to assume the role on July 7, 2025, becoming the seventh CEO in the organization's history.
Gupta brings a wealth of experience to the ICC, currently holding the position of CEO, Sports & Live Experiences, at JioStar. His career spans over two decades in media, entertainment, and sports. Before his role at JioStar, Gupta held leadership positions at Disney & Star India, including Head of Sports.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, "I am pleased to announce that Sanjog Gupta has been appointed as the CEO of the ICC. Sanjog brings extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialisation, which will be invaluable for the ICC."
Shah further emphasized Gupta's understanding of the global sports landscape, his passion for technology, and his focus on the cricket fan. These attributes, according to Shah, will be crucial in growing the game, expanding its reach, and solidifying its presence in core markets, including the potential inclusion of cricket in the Olympics.
The selection process involved a global search that began in March 2025 and attracted over 2,500 applicants from 25 countries. A shortlist of 12 candidates was evaluated by a Nominations Committee comprising key figures from various cricket boards, including ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja, ECB Chair Richard Thompson, SLC President Shammi Silva, and BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia. The ICC Board unanimously approved Gupta's nomination following the final assessment.
Gupta expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, particularly at a time when cricket is poised for significant growth. "It is a privilege to have this opportunity, especially at a time when cricket is poised for unprecedented growth and enjoys the passionate support of almost 2 billion fans worldwide," he said. He highlighted the exciting times for the sport, with marquee events gaining prominence, commercial opportunities expanding, and the women's game growing in popularity. He also noted that cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the increasing adoption of technology could accelerate the sport's global movement.
Gupta concluded, "I look forward to contributing to the next phase of cricket's evolution, expanding its global footprint, enhancing the fan experience, and working closely with ICC Member Boards to build on our strong foundations."
