The Indian CERT-In warns Android users of 'High' severity security flaws in multiple versions of the operating system, including vulnerabilities that could lead to obtaining sensitive information, gaining elevated privileges, executing arbitrary code, and causing denial of service conditions.

Government Statement on Android Vulnerabilities

The report indicates that these vulnerabilities could be exploited by malicious actors to access sensitive information, elevate privileges within the system, execute arbitrary code, or initiate denial-of-service attacks on affected devices. The flaws stem from weaknesses in various Android components, including the Framework, System, AMLogic, Arm components, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm closed-source components.

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could grant attackers unauthorized access to sensitive data, allow them to gain elevated privileges, and even execute malicious code or trigger denial-of-service conditions on the targeted system.

Affected Android Versions

The vulnerabilities impact a wide range of Android versions, specifically:

  • Android 11
  • Android 12
  • Android 12L
  • Android 13
  • Android 14

The warning applies to both Android smartphones and tablets.

Recommended Action: Security Patch Update

CERT-In strongly advises all affected users to immediately apply the latest security patch released for their devices. To check for and install the update, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Navigate to Software updates.
  3. Tap the Check for updates button.
  4. If an update is available, select Install.
  5. Allow the update to download and install completely.
  6. Restart your device once the installation is finished.
