Rishabh Pant's Witty Retort Silences Harry Brook's Provocative Query During Test Match
During the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, Rishabh Pant showcased not only his batting prowess but also his sharp wit, effectively silencing England's Harry Brook's attempts at unsettling him. Brook tried some verbal tactics to disrupt Pant's rhythm during his rapid half-century.
As Pant was building momentum, Brook engaged him between deliveries, posing a question seemingly designed to provoke. "What's your fastest hundred?" he inquired, possibly aiming to encourage a reckless approach from the Indian batsman.
Pant responded calmly, "In Test cricket, maybe 80–90 minutes," referring to the measured tempo of his previous Test centuries.
Brook, undeterred, then referenced his own swift century in the IPL, "The fastest hundred I’ve hit was in 55 balls—you could do that today," attempting to goad Pant into playing rash shots.
However, Pant remained composed and refused to be drawn in. "It’s okay. I’m not too greedy for records. If it happens, it happens," he replied with a composed smile, effectively shutting down Brook’s sledging with quiet confidence.
After scoring 25 in the first innings, Pant contributed a crucial and entertaining 65 off just 58 balls in the second, including eight fours and three sixes.
