Rishabh Pant's Somersault Celebration Draws Reaction from Doctor Who Aided His Recovery
Rishabh Pant's explosive batting during the first Test against England at Leeds, which included two centuries, has been the subject of much discussion. However, it was a celebratory move after reaching his hundred that really caught the eye and sparked debate.
Pant celebrates his century with a cartwheel.
Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the surgeon who treated Pant following his serious car accident in December 2022, shared his thoughts on the now-viral somersault celebration. Speaking to The Telegraph, Dr. Pardiwala remarked, “Rishabh trained as a gymnast. Although he looks large, he is quite agile, and he does have a lot of flexibility. And, that’s why he’s been doing those somersaults of late. It’s a well-practised and perfected move — unnecessary though!”
Pant's return to cricket is a testament to his resilience. On December 30, 2022, he crashed his car while driving from Delhi to Roorkee, sustaining significant injuries that sidelined him for an extended period.
Against England, Pant showcased the talent that makes him such a valuable asset in Test cricket. He hit a blistering 134 in the first innings and followed it up with 118 in the second. Despite his efforts, India was unable to defend a target of 371 and lost by five wickets.
Pant’s impressive record in England highlights his affinity for challenging conditions. In 10 Tests, he has scored 808 runs at an average of 42.52, including four centuries and two fifties, with a memorable 146 being his highest score.
